CBT-I stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia. It is the most effective non-drug treatment for insomnia. CBT-I is effective as both a short-term and long-term treatment for insomnia.
The therapy combines both cognitive (thinking) and behavioural (behaviour and actions) principles to give clients/participants insight and understanding into thoughts that help the maintenance of sleep problems, and to teach behavioural techniques that improve the quality of sleep.
The CBT-I treatment is given in 6 short 1.5-hour sessions. The sessions are face-to-face at the University of Calgary or online.
